Introduction
Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Spanish: Real Madrid Club de Fútbol), commonly known as Real Madrid, and referred to as "Real" in Chinese, is a football club based in the capital of Spain, Madrid. It is recognized as one of the top elite clubs in the football world. Founded on March 6, 1902, the team was initially called Madrid Football Club. On June 29, 1920, King Alfonso XIII of Spain added the term "Real" (meaning royal in Spanish) to the club's name, and a crown was added to the emblem to promote the development of football in Madrid. Since then, the club has been officially known as Real Madrid Club de Fútbol.
Real Madrid has won 15 UEFA Champions League titles (the most in Europe), 36 La Liga titles (the most in Spain), 20 Copa del Rey titles, 13 Spanish Super Cup titles, 5 UEFA Super Cup titles, and 7 FIFA Club World Cup titles (including 5 Intercontinental Cup titles, the most).
Iconic crests and home field
Before the official founding of Real Madrid, the club's emblem was first designed in 1902 according to the club's statutes. The badge featured a blue background with the white initials "M," "F," and "C," representing Madrid Football Club, the club's predecessor. In 1908, a circle was added around the emblem to enhance its design.
In 1920, the club received the royal title "Real" from King Alfonso XIII, and a crown was added to the emblem. The club's name was changed to "Real Madrid Foot-Ball Club," with the name displayed in English.
In 1931, when Spain became a republic, the crown was removed from the emblem. During this time, a ribbon in purple, symbolizing the Castile region, was introduced into the badge.
In 1941, the crown was reinstated on the emblem. From then on, the club's name was presented in Spanish. The design of the ribbon, the color scheme, and the layout of the text on the badge continued to be refined until it evolved into the emblem we recognize today.
In 2001, the club made minor modifications to the emblem, resulting in the current Real Madrid crest we see today.
Real Madrid Football Club (the predecessor of Real Madrid) initially used Campo de O'Donnell as their home ground. On May 17, 1923, the team moved to Campo de Ciudad Lineal, which had a capacity of 8,000 but was used only briefly. The following year, the club relocated to Estadio de Chamartin, a stadium with a capacity of approximately 25,000, where Real Madrid won their first club title. This stadium was used until 1947, when it was replaced by the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Spanish: Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, English: Santiago Bernabéu Stadium), located in Madrid, Spain, is the home of Real Madrid Football Club and a UEFA five-star stadium. It has a seating capacity of 85,454.
